Dr. Colin Webb, DDS, MS
Charlotte Orthodontist | Advanced Digital, Customized & Airway-Aware Orthodontic Care
Dr. Colin Webb is a Charlotte native and orthodontic specialist at Webb & Goldsmith Orthodontics. His approach to orthodontics combines extensive clinical experience with some of the most advanced digital and customized orthodontic technology available today.
Webb & Goldsmith Orthodontics has been voted Best Orthodontist in Charlotte for six consecutive years by readers of South Charlotte Lifestyle Magazine and was recently named the 2026 SouthPark Magazine A-List Voters’ Choice Winner for Orthodontics Practice.
Dr. Webb believes great orthodontic treatment is about much more than simply making teeth straight. His goal is to create the best possible smile, bite and facial balance for each patient while making treatment as accurate, predictable and efficient as possible.
Education & Professional Background
Dr. Webb was born and raised in Charlotte and completed his undergraduate education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, earning his BA before attending the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree.
He then completed advanced specialty training in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at Seton Hill University, earning his master’s degree in orthodontics as well as graduate training in business administration.
Dr. Webb has been involved with local, state and national dental and orthodontic organizations throughout his career and has served the Charlotte dental community in leadership roles.
One of the biggest changes in modern orthodontics is the ability to digitally plan treatment before moving the first tooth.
Dr. Webb has made customized digital orthodontics a major focus of his practice. Rather than relying solely on the same brackets, wires or treatment mechanics for every patient, Webb & Goldsmith uses advanced 3D scanning and digital treatment planning to design treatment around each patient’s individual teeth, bite and anatomy.
For patients choosing braces, Webb & Goldsmith offers a digitally treatment planned and custom braces system, called LightForce braces. Instead of using identical stock brackets, this allows brackets to be digitally designed specifically for each patient’s teeth and treatment plan. This equates to the most accurate and efficient orthodontic treatment available!
For patients choosing clear aligners, Webb & Goldsmith is a Diamond Plus Top 1% Invisalign provider, reflecting extensive experience with Invisalign treatment. Dr. Webb uses digital planning to customize the movements, attachments and treatment sequence for each individual patient.
The technology itself is only a tool. Dr. Webb believes the real advantage comes from combining that technology with his nearly 15 years of experience and the clinical judgment of an orthodontic specialist to determine exactly how and when each tooth should move.
The goal is more customized, more precise and more efficient orthodontic treatment with fewer compromises along the way.
An Expansion-Forward, Airway-Aware Philosophy
Dr. Webb also takes a modern, expansion-forward and airway-aware approach to orthodontic diagnosis, particularly when evaluating children whose jaws and faces are still growing.
Historically, orthodontic treatment for crowded teeth sometimes relied heavily on extracting healthy permanent teeth to create space. Severe jaw discrepancies could also lead patients toward surgical treatment later in life. That treatment was reactive. His approach is proactive.
Dr. Webb believes that before removing healthy permanent teeth or considering more invasive treatment, it is important to ask whether the patient’s developing jaws and dental arches can be treated differently by guiding and encouraging the desired growth through orthodontics.
When clinically appropriate, Dr. Webb uses orthodontic expansion, growth guidance and modern treatment techniques to create additional space, improve the relationship between the upper and lower jaws, and preserve healthy permanent teeth.
He also considers breathing and airway-related anatomy as part of the overall orthodontic evaluation. Orthodontists do not diagnose or treat sleep disorders, but the width and development of the jaws, potential adenoid obstruction, nasal breathing, tongue position and airway are important considerations when evaluating a growing child.
The goal is not to say that extractions or jaw surgery are never appropriate. In certain patients, they absolutely are. The goal is to avoid unnecessary extraction of healthy teeth or invasive treatment when a predictable, stable and less-invasive alternative is available!
Experience Matters
Dr. Webb believes orthodontics is becoming increasingly technology-driven, but experience matters more than ever.
Two orthodontists can use the exact same Invisalign aligners or braces and create very different treatment plans.
That is why Webb & Goldsmith has focused not simply on acquiring new technology, but on gaining tremendous experience using it. The practice has treated thousands of orthodontic patients using customized braces, Invisalign and digital treatment planning.
That combination of technology + experience + individualized diagnosis is at the center of Dr. Webb’s treatment philosophy.

Author of The Ultimate Orthodontic Consult Guide for Parents
Dr. Webb is also the author of The Ultimate Orthodontic Consult Guide for Parents: Empowering Parents to Make Informed Decisions.
He wrote the book because orthodontics has changed dramatically, and parents are often presented with very different recommendations from different orthodontists regarding when treatment should begin, whether expansion is necessary, whether teeth should be extracted, braces versus Invisalign, airway considerations and how facial growth can affect treatment.
His goal was to give parents an understandable guide to those decisions so they can ask better questions and understand not only what an orthodontist is recommending, but why.
That same philosophy guides his consultations with patients every day.
A Charlotte Native Taking Care of Charlotte Families
Charlotte isn’t simply where Dr. Webb practices orthodontics — it’s home.
He grew up here, returned to Charlotte to practice, and now raises his family here in Foxcroft with his wife, Dr. Kelly Webb, who is also a dentist.
Outside of orthodontics, Dr. Webb is a lifelong UNC Tar Heel and Carolina Panthers fan and enjoys spending time with his family and playing golf.
Most importantly, he enjoys taking care of Charlotte families and helping patients understand all of their options so they can choose the treatment that makes the most sense for them.
